UUIDv4 vs UUIDv7

v4 provides 122 bits of uncoordinated randomnessโ€”ideal for secrets and public tokens. v7 embeds a 48-bit millisecond timestamp, creating chronological order that stops database B-Tree index fragmentation.

RFC 9562 Compliance

Published in May 2024, RFC 9562 formally replaced the 2005 RFC 4122 specification. All generation and inspection routines follow strict RFC 9562 bit layouts and variant bounds.

Zero Network Exposure

Identifiers are synthesized within the local browser runtime via crypto.getRandomValues(). No IDs are transmitted over networks or recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?โ–ผ

Version 4 is entirely random. Version 7 starts with a millisecond timestamp, so values created later sort later, which makes them friendlier for database keys and indexes.

Are the UUIDs generated here unique?โ–ผ

Yes, for all practical purposes. Random bits come from your browser's secure random generator, and in a batch of v7 UUIDs a counter keeps them in order even within the same millisecond.

Can I generate many UUIDs at once?โ–ผ

Yes, up to 500 per click. Copy them or download them as a text file.

Can I inspect a UUID?โ–ผ

Yes. Paste one to see its version, variant and, for time-based versions (v1, v6, v7), the date it encodes.

What are the nil and max UUIDs?โ–ผ

The nil UUID is all zeros and the max UUID is all F's. Both are reserved values defined in the UUID standard (RFC 9562).

Is my data sent to a server?โ–ผ

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or tracked. Once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection.
